About Malcolm MacDonald

Malcolm grew up in Ashington in the north east of England, but decided that the “Pit” was not for him. He served his apprenticeship with Canadian Pacific in the Merchant Navy staying with the company for 12 years.

He than gained a BEng(Hons) at Leeds Poly in Manufacturing Systems Engineering and progressed into Production Management with Rockware Glass, implementing improvements in processes throughout the business which led to a major investment throughout the whole company. Moving to George Barkers, he assisted in the implementation of BS5750, the implementation of a new MRPII system and then led the redesign and consequent saving of a major product, still being produced today.

Since then, Malcolm has worked in Interim and Contract roles with Lucas Aerospace and a Timber company in the Black Country, improving their processes and had full-time roles with BMW and ASOS, amongst others.

It was then that he went to Cranfield University on the Fellowship of Manufacturing Management and discovered that he had been following Toyota’s production methodology without realising. Since graduating, he has consulted with the Red Meat Industry Forum and PERA, where he helped companies such as Brady Corporation, Buckingham Foods, Stewart Milne, Southern Counties Fresh Foods, Siemens Magnet Technology, BMW Manufacturing, Rudolph & Hellmann and Anglo Beef Processors, before setting out on his own.

Malcolm lives near Chippenham in Wiltshire.
